An Autumn Day of Baking- Paula’s Apple Pie
Yesterday Eric and I decided to enjoy an Autumn feast. Eric baked a batch of his delicious homemade butter rolls, I cooked a mustard-onion glazed brisket in the crock pot and to finish out the meal I made my first attempt at homemade apple pie. Of course, I turned to Food Network for a tried and true recipe and ended up making Paula Deen’s pie. Eric, who is an apple pie connoisseur, thought it was one of the best he’s ever had!

I decided to use a combination of granny smith and fuji apples. Oh, and I turned the oven temp down to 350 degrees – I read several reviews stating the 450 degree temp that is advised in the recipe burned the pie. It turned out flaky, tart and sweet. The lemon juice that is added to the filling created the perfect depth in flavor. We topped it with vanilla ice cream and it was a scrumptious ending to our Autumn feast. Thanks Paula Deen!
