Big Flavors at The Ridge Grill
Tonight we took cover from the scorching 100+ rays to take in some fresh food with fabulous flavors at The Ridge, located in the shopping center at 101st and Mingo.
From the first sip of my cabernet to the last taste of key lime pie, it was a delightful dining experience. When I first opened the menu, I was welcomed with the quote “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well” by Virginia Woolf, which was quite the crafty touch for enticing customers into going all out.
We opted to start with The Ridge Bruschetta: crostinis with their super fresh pesto, Roma tomatoes, feta cheese and basil for $8. Everyone at the table was happy with this starter:
We also got the Blue Crab Dip appetizer: crostinis with crab with cheese in a garlic-dill sauce for $12, which the non-shellfish allergic people at the table (not me) liked:
The appetizers were full of rich flavors, which set the pace for the night. For entrees, my eleven year old daughter got the fettuccine alfredo, which was very garlic-y – this was great for the rest of the table, but proved to be a bit much for her pre-teen sensibilities:
We also tried out their steak, “The Ridge Filet,” which came with “Yukon Gold Smashed Potatoes and Fire-Roasted Vegetables” for $29. Eric so poetically likened tasting the potatoes to “running through an Idaho valley with the wind whipping through your hair.” Oh, and the steak was a big hit, too.
While others enjoyed the Pistachio Panéed Sea Bass, Christine was not so happy with the Brandied Berry Coulis which the fish was set on, because she thought the combination didn’t mesh well. She also didn’t like the strong fishiness of the… fish. I, unlike my picky counterpart, thought it was flakey and fresh, and had no issue with the coulis.
I ordered what I and my daughter considered to be the star of the night: the Moroccan Roast Chicken for $16, which was described as “Large Breast dusted in the spices of North Africa and oven-roasted. Accented with an Apple and Fig Chutney.” The chicken breast was exploding was an amazing array of flavors, and the chutney was a perfectly cool sidekick to the spiciness of the rub. The rice was earthy and the vegetables perfectly grilled. It was an impeccable combination of textures and flavors – one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time!
We topped the night off with a flaming creme brulee cheesecake and a tart key lime pie:
The desserts followed suit by offering their own strong flavors, especially the key lime pie which was delightfully lime-y!
All in all, it was a pretty incredible meal, and I have confidence that tonight I will think well, love well, and sleep well, because I have most definitely dined well.
