As much as we adore Tulsa, once in a while we like to venture out to try out the wonderful food that other places have to offer.  So here it is… our first Tasty Tulsa ‘Outing’!

On Halloween, my family went to Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, and while many would probably associate the colonial American park with rides, crafts, and music, there’s a lot of wonderful food to be had and I just couldn’t resist a blog post about it!

Silver Dollar City not only has a lot of great foods to taste, but also much to smell and hear.  Roasting meats, grilling vegetables, and crackling pork rinds are just too much to resist on a crisp autumn day.  They cook these amazing smelling and sounding foods in these huge pots and skillets, so that you’re completely enveloped in sensory of the foods.

Close to the park entrance, they invite you in with the scents and sounds of delicious crackling pork rinds, and once you try a sample, it’s hard to resist buying a bag (at least for us)!  This is nothing like those bags you get at a convenience store, as you can probably guess.

They also have wonderful little food stands around every corner, offering everything from Italian to home-cooking to sandwiches to ‘Exploded Onions.”

For lunch, I just had to get something from the Skillet Cookery.  These open air skillets were simply too great to resist!

I went for the succotash – it was fantastic!  My husband and daughter opted for the chicken sandwich and chicken strips with seasoned fries from Hatfield’s Tater Patch.

Another wonderful thing about Silver Dollar City is the sweets – from little stands that sell caramel sliced apples to candy stores where you can watch them make peanut brittle and choose from the largest variety of homemade candy that I’ve ever seen – they have the most delightful array of treats to choose from!

As I mentioned, it was Halloween day when we went, and while we never saw evidence of Halloween there (I guess it’s too risque for Branson), it was still a great day of food and fun!
